How do you simplify the policy issuance procedure for health insurance policies which typically take 7--10 days followed by another 10--15 days for processing a health card issued by a TPA? Reliance Gen Insurance came up with a rather innovative solution. The Policy Kit System, as the company likes to call the initiative, is aimed at revolutionalising the insurance policy issuance process by introducing in India, an OTC product, which has the capacity to trickle down the customer at the remotest village of the country toward the larger goal of creating a robust and secure kit allocation and tracking module ensuring risk minimization.

The inhouse IT team came up with the idea of doing something similar to an account opening kit in banking, and developed a front end portal based on MS technologies (.NET, SQL Server) to enable such issuance of kits at the point of sale with minimum data entry. The system also supports multiple channels like web, tele call, and other regular channels. Within 9 months of its deployment, the company claims that there are over 3.36 lac policies sold till date and excess of 83 cores premium have come in through this system.
