Karnataka State Police Housing : Web-based Project Mgmt System

Construction & Housing dept. has overcome resistance at various levels to create a Web-based app to speed up paperwork and facilitate instant alerts to stakeholders

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

The primary function of KSHPC is to cater to the requirements of constructing residential premises for govt. personnel and providing office spaces for all its depts. Ever since the establishment of the dept. in 1985, there have been a few challenges daunting over the smooth functioning of the dept. Contractors and project personnel had to be enabled to instantaneously update project status from any remote site and every project which the dept undertook needed to be divided into manageable tasks and each task assigned a scheduled start and end date. Vital project related docs such as drawings, contracts, estimates, licenses, had to be easily accessible to all the concerned project for accounting operations. The aim of course was to ensure that real time updates of project status had to be made available to all stakeholders.

When KSPHC decided to embark on the WBPMS, it did not have the requisite resources to home in on the right kind of platform and understand the complex process of software licensing. But once it overcame this hurdle, the WBPMS ensured that there was online collaboration, an alert monitoring sys was in place, and a special app was added which allowed the admins to 'upload tools' that were relevant to the project. KSHPC is confident of recovering its investment of Rs 38.5 million in a shorter time span than expected.
