Directorate of Excise, Govt of West Bengal : Excise Program for Effective Revenue (xPERT)

It creates a computerized network linking the Directorate, district offices, distilleries and retail shops to provide critical MIS and intelligence inputs

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

Since ages, the operations of the Excise Directorate, relating to manufacture, supply, storage and distribution of liquor, collection of duties and maintenance of records have been carried out manually by maintaining a large number of paper records at the district offices, liquor factories, warehouses, traders and retailers. This severely affects the generation of accurate MIS reports for decision-making with progressively increasing volumes. Thus, a web-based portal solution was developed to join the networks of the Directorate along with the other stakeholders such as district offices, distilleries, factories, warehouses and retail outlets for effective regulation and revenue administration. xPERT is built on Microsoft technologies using ASP.NET and MS SQL Server 2005. The application is hosted in the NIC domain, the URL being http://wbdemo3.nic.in/index.htm. All stakeholders can access xPERT from their client machines. The system facilitates online tracking of status of different processes such as grant of licenses, issuance of permits and passes, a single window source of information related to import, processing, production, distribution, retail and consumption of excisable commodities.
