BLA Group of companies : ERP Deployment
Having learnt a bad lesson from FIFO methodology, this coal mining company went for a MS ERP app, and has laid out a roadmap for future deployments
Tuesday, May 06, 2008
For its consumables, the BLA group of companies was using FIFO methodology,
only to realize that the valuations were not reconciling correctly, purchase
procedures were not being followed correctly, the company had not implemented
the manufacturing module, and specific requirements for the coal mining industry
were not customized.
This meant that the company required an integrated approach for its
production locations in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh instead of the distributed
database approach which was implemented earlier. In order to achieve this, it
roped in PricewaterhouseCoopers, which did a ground study and recommended a
fresh implementation of Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
Two separate businesses were configured in the same instance of Microsoft
Dynamics NAV: one at BLA Industries Private Limited and the other at BLA Coke
Private Limited. As a part of the implementation, inventory valuations were made
available online, fixed asset management and captured asset history dating back
to 1980 were improved, business processes were streamlined, effectiveness of the
purchase process was increased and vehicle and goods movements were streamlined.
