United Spirits Ltd, Bangalore : Project Delta

This in house ERP solution was implemented after the company faced problems of skilled manpower to manage their existing SAP deployment

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

India's biggest spirits and breweries company has over 50 billing stations spread across the country. Some of these billing stations are fully owned by the Company. In order to connect and monitor the operations across these billing stations, United Spirits implemented Enterprise Wide SAP in 2003. But it wasn't too happy with the way it worked. After implementation of SAP, the Company faced a major challenge in gain-and-retain of skilled professionals who could transact in SAP across all stations. This led to the birth of Project Delta. Delta created a process which used a 'JAVA wrap around,' where all inputs were taken through a single screen. Using these inputs and SAP BAPI, Web services and all the five processes were taken in 'One Go'. Since the SAP interaction is done through a SAP connector, the solution is insulated from any SAP upgrades, resulting in Delta being used extensively for Material Creation, Customer Creation, and Backflush. United Spirits has currently implemented the project in 25 of its billing stations and has already started seeing the benefits.
