Bharat Petroleum : SO2 Emission Control and Monitoring System

Project is implemented to bring convergence of voice, video and data into PowerGrid for cost cutting and operational efficiency

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

BPCL Mumbai Refinery has developed and deployed an IT solution to facilitate monitoring and control of SO2 emissions on a near real time basis. Collection of data from different plants, compiling of the data and advising plant managers to act upon was a phenomenal and time consuming task previously, as these require manual inputs, coordination that could result in potential errors.

To do away with the existing problems, the team came up with an idea to architect, develop and implement a user-friendly IT solution system that would integrate with available systems like MES, Laboratory Information Management system(LIMS), Fuel monitoring system, SAP etc, to store data in a central repository with minimal input.

Further, it was also necessary that the new system should be person independent and should reduce time and effort to meet the business requirements enabling features like security, role-based access and finally accessible from any where, any time and alert the users in case of any emergency in the threshold of the amount of SO2 in the local environment.
