POWERGRID CORPORATION OF INDIA : Converged IT & Comm Network
Aims to converge voice, video and data into a PowerGrid resulting in cost cutting and increased operational efficiency of the entire organization
Tuesday, May 06, 2008
PowerGrid is present at multiple locations across India with 13 tier-2
offices and 200 tier-3 offices and needs a robust multi-channel communication
system for smoothly communicating with all its offices. The company wanted to
increase interaction among tier-1, tier-2 and tier-3 offices to avoid split in
organization culture, enabled knowledge sharing between field and corporate
people. Reducing operational expenditure of the company by cutting down
communication and traveling costs was another issue faced by the organization.
To counter these issues, PowerGrid started a convergence project called EWAN
which provides POWERNET(data/web),VOICENET(telephony) and VIDEONET (video)
services. EWAN has done consolidation of Finance and Accounts operations located
at Data Centre in Corporate Centre, Gurgaon. This has led to early closure of
accounts, robust reporting system for decision making by middle and upper
management and adherence to compliance according to regulatory requirements.
After implementation of this project, VOICENET services division has saved Rs 23
lacs per annum by avoiding local and ISD calls and a single review meeting
results in saving of Rs 2.5 lacs thru the use of VIDEONET, as tour, travel and
boarding expenditures are avoided.
