Reliance-Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group : Video Conferencing Service

One of the first pay-per-use solution that can save a lot on travel, cost and give enhanced productivity for professionals

Tuesday, May 06, 2008

Reliance World is a nationwide chain of retail outlets for products and services of the Reliance - Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group. These 242 outlets are connected to Reliance's countrywide optic fiber network, and has deployed India's first Video-Conferencing pay-per-use service. VC was part of RWs business plan as an emerging and evolving broadband application, to leverage the broadband infrastructure. The VC service can connect participants whether they are on IP, ISDN or telephone. It makes a productive alternative to travelling to multiple locations to meet people. It is innovatively designed and promoted as a platform to roll out various corporate and consumer applications like Recruitment, Multi city Training, Review Meetings, Virtual Classroom. At these outlets VC is conducted at full 25 fps (frames per second). The platform and service was developed in-house, except for the equipment - VC end points (camera) and VC Bridge (server), which had to be purchased. The charges are Rs. 2,000 per hour, which is very reasonable compared to global standards. It benefits enterprises as well as individual customers in terms of communication, data and information flow, speed and time to market, increased productivity and efficiency.
