Aopen DRW4410 This one supports only the
+R/RW format, and does a good job of writing on it. Plus, its CD-writing and DVD read performance are among the best. It loses out because of slower CD writing speeds and a higher price. |
Asus DRW-0402P The only writer to support
DVD-R/RW format in the shootout. This great performer is competitively priced. It needs improvement in CD-writing capabilities, such as faster CDRW throughputs and formatting. |
Liteon LDW-401S The winner of our shootout, it comes out trumps in more ways than one. It has the fastest
DVD+R/RW as well as CD writing speeds. |
Iomega Dual DVD This drive supports both DVD writing formats. Though its price is about 15% higher than single format writers, it is still attractive. The drive was the best performer in the DVD-RW tests and average in the others. |
Sony DRU-510A The best performer in the shootout, this drive comes at a price premium. |
Liteon External SDW-200DX
This writer was the slimmest both in size and, sadly, in performance too. Though the size part may appeal to laptop users, the performance, though supporting both formats, may drive them away. |
Sony External DRX-510UL
This is also the performance leader, just like its internal counterpart. It loses only because of its high pricing. Its reading/writing speeds are the maximum amongst all external writers. |
HP External DVD300E
Though it may not be as fast as the Sony writer, nor as slim and beautiful as the Liteon writer, it wins over others in the price. A well priced external option. |
