KBOX is a helpdesk system based on Open Source foundation. It is very easy to deploy this system. The NetBSD lies under applications and the applications run on Apache. This one comes at a very low price and you can download the 30-day trial version of the appliance from http://www.kace.com/produ cts/virtual-appliance/virtual-kbox.php. While downloading the trial or a paid version of it, you have to provide your email ID to receive the license of the same. You can use this software as a full-fledged inventory and license management solution. The usage is very easy and you will get lots of documentation along with the software. Here, with the help of 4 screen shots, we will try to demo you how to run it for the first time and test the help desk module of it.

This is essentially a virtual appliance which can run on VMware ESX Server or even on a VMware player. The configuration is very easy. Once you download the appliance, you need to add it to VMware client and run it. It will throw a license agreement. Accept it and it will start unpacking the virtual appliance. Once done, it will boot into a NetBSD. You will have to login to the machine by providing username as konfig and konfig as password. Once you login, you will see this.

In this screen, you have to give the IP address and other IP related information such as the subnet, DNS, machine name. After the reboot, you have to login to http://IP.address/ad min and enter the license key and password for the admin user.

Now you will be able to login to http://ip.address/ as an user. Login as admin and go to helpdesk section. You will be able to lodge a complaint through a comprehensive form. Now to check if the ticket is created or not. Log out and go to http://ip.address/admin and login again as admin and go to Helpdesk tab.
