Canon i70 portable printer

Tuesday, September 16, 2003

The i70 from Canon is a portable printer for people on the go. About the size of a fat book, it weighs 1.8 kg and is easy to carry. When folded, it measures 12”(length)x by 8”(width) by 2” (height).

Portable printers are generally not known for their speed and quality, but this little beast surprised us on both counts. It can deliver the first page in just 17 seconds, and after that pumps out pages at the rate of about one every 9 seconds. This it does in the normal quality setting, but speed can be increased by switching to draft mode, or sacrificed when changed to best mode.

The quality of prints was exceptionally good, and would easily beat many desktop printers as well.

The printer has three connectivity options - USB, infrared and a special camera port for select Canon digital cameras. The cartridges on the i70 are quite small, and have a printing capacity of 185 pages in black and 100 pages in color. Though the i70 comes with an AC adapter, it also has the ability to be totally mobile using a Li-ion battery that is not included in the package. The printer costs Rs 22,995. With the battery (and the docking station for recharging) the cost goes up by another Rs 9,995. The ink cartridges are priced at Rs 795 (black) and Rs 1545 (color).
