It's a sheer myth that only Blackberry offers push mail service, and you have to go through lot of hassles to get it activated on your smart phone. In this article we will take you through a 10-minute exercise after which your smart phone will become push mail ready without requiring you to pay a single penny. All you need is a mobile phone with GPRS and an inbuilt mail client. Any standard phone today comes with these features.

Mail account can be a Gmail or a Hotmail account or it can be any Exchange or Lotus Notes account provided it gives web-based access. Most Exchange or Lotus Notes
deployments today have this feature enabled.

Direct Hit!

Applies To: Everyone with a SmartPhone
Price: Free
USP: Free and simple Push Mail
Primary Link: http://www.emoze.com/
Google Keyword: free push mail

Go to emoze.com, and click on 'Get emoze Now!'. Select type of mail account you have, Gmail, Hotmail or Web Access 'Push my Office'. We tried with 'Push my Office'. In case of 'Push my Office', in the next screen, the site will ask you to select between Outlook or Lotus Notes. We went with Outlook.

Emoze only works with Exchange accounts that provide Web access. Click on 'Yes' if you can access your Outlook account on the Web. Now the system will ask you to select your phone. First select the brand from the first drop down and then select the model from the second dropdown and then proceed.

How you would like to get the software -through PC, SMS or WAP? Click on 'SMS', and you will receive a link as an SMS. Click on it to download and install the software to your phone. A screen will open up on your phone. Select 'Push My Office' and proceed. On the second screen, select the option that says 'OWA' and click on 'Next' to proceed.

Now fill in your username and password for the email account. The username is the e-mail id without @ and domain name. Here type in your mail domain name, e.g. if your mail id is abc@xyz.com, then this will will be xyz.com. In the second field put in the Web address of your mail server.

Enable all folders you want to synchronize with. By default 'Inbox' is selected and you can't deselect it. Other folders can be selected or deselected as per your need. Everything is done. Just let the application once connect to your mail account and synchronize, which will hardly take 2 minutes. Now your device is ready to receive push mails.
