ASUS A7 Pro

Thursday, February 08, 2001
Chipset: VIA Apollo KT 133
Price: Rs 9,950
Software: Motherboard drivers, Asus PC Probe, Adobe Acrobat Reader 4, CyberLink PowerPlayer SE, CyberLink Power DVD, CyberLink VideoLive Mail
Website: www.asus.com

The basic difference in features between the Asus A7V and the Asus A7 Pro is that the A7V has support for both ATA 100 and ATA 66 hard disks; while the A7 Pro has support for only the ATA 66.

Performance wise the A7Pro did equally well as the A7V. It got 53.8 in Highend Winstone99, which was the highest score in its group. (It was followed by the Asus A7V with 53.1). It repeated its performance in VideoMark2000, 3D Winbench 2000, Quake III Arena and Ejay MP3 bagging the highest score in each of these tests. The margin of victory, however, was not too much because the A7V was never too far behind in any test. Still, performance wise motherboards don’t get any better than the A7V.

The CD accompanying the motherboard had lots of useful software, like CyberLink for PowerPlayer SE, CyberLink Power DVD and Video mail software apart from the regular motherboard drivers. The board is decently priced at Rs 9,950. So if you want the very best in performance then this board is a good choice for you.
