Monday, June 02, 2003

This PDA can be used by cooperative banks for collecting small payments, or also used for air travel planning. Plus it even has MP3 player and voice recorder.

The handsPC 1600 is a PDA that can be used by mobile executives who travel a lot. It has databases of all the Air Lines in India. From here one can get all the necessary data like number of flights available from one city to another, departure/Arrival time, fares for different classes, and stops. This can be very helpful in making your travel plans. This PDA also comes with some other applications customized for Indian users. It contains application for viewing the STD codes of Indian cities. Plus, there’s bundled software for automating the task of Pigmi collection. Pigmi collection is an activity conducted by co-operative banks, which involves daily collection of small savings from small shops or roadside hawkers (hence the name ‘pigmi’). This collection is handled by agencies that employ people to collect this savings money. This software is aimed particularly at such executives.

The PDA has a color LCD display of 160x 160 resolution, which is pretty sharp and clear. It uses the same processor as the HandsPC 1300, that is, 33 MHz Motorala Dragonball, and also works on Penbex OS. The PDA has 4MB flash ROM and 8 MB RAM. A nice feature in the PDA is its multimedia support. It comes with built-in MP3 player, and a voice recorder. The playback quality of audio is also pretty good. There’s also a headphone, which can be connected to it for enjoying your MP3 files. Plus it has a CF and infrared Interface, and a serial port for connecting to a PC. Overall it’s a good buy considering the number of features.
