Hitachi Deskstar 250GB

This is the latest 250 GB SerialATA HDD from Hitachi. We compared it with the winners and other SATA drives of our hard disk shootout of August this yearand the results can be seen in the table.

In Business Winstone (84.4) and Content Creation Winstone (113.2), it gave good results. It fared better in high-end Disk Winmarks than in Business Disk Winmarks. The former benchmark uses several high-end applications that deal with large files, while the latter uses regular productivity applications that deal with smaller files. The access time for the drive was also higher than other drives. Moving to the raw transfer rates, the drive was the best of the lot.

Good overall performance of the drive along with the attractive price tag of Rs 67/GB, makes it a good buy. The only crib can be the one-year warranty offered on the drive.
