This is a hardware based thin client solution that comes in a small form factor. At the heart of the device is a VIA C7 1.0 GHz processor with 1 GB DDR RAM, mounted on a GA-C7V7-ASI-RH-GB1 motherboard. It also has in-built graphics, audio and 10/100 Mbps LAN. In addition, it has 4 USB ports for connecting additional USB based printers and storage devices. It's a plug-and-play thin client which is very easy to set up. The device runs a stripped-down version of Linux and provides a GUI interface once it is booted. On the desktop, it shows two tools. One is used to configure the device's network, mouse and keyboard, adding NFS and SMB share settings.

Price: Rs 9000 (1 yr warranty)
Key Specs: VIA C7 1.0 GHz processor, 1 GB DDR RAM, 4 USB ports, onboard sound and LAN
Meant For: BPOs

The other one is used to make new thin client connections. The device supports all the terminal services such as Microsoft Terminal Services (RDP), VNC, Citrix, X11, shell script and many more. For testing the device, we used two host machines: one running the Microsoft Terminal Services; and the other one a Linux X11 (XDM) service. We connected the device to both. While accessing the hosts on this device, it felt as if we were working on a standalone machine. There was no delay as such in the speed while using routine applications on the terminal. We also played music and movie files to test its graphics and audio performance. The results were quite acceptable.

Bottom Line: A good device for BPOs that require terminal services for accessing client IT infrastructure.
