XFX 9600GT Graphics Card

Saurangshu Kanunjna

Saturday, April 05, 2008

This card is based on the latest 9-series chipset from NVIDIA. It comes with 512MB of GDDR3 RAM and has 700MHz of core clock speed. It's much sleeker than the Palit 9600GT (reviewed March 08), but has only dual DVI ports as compared to the four display options in Palit 9600GT. XFX has added support for HDMI to the 9600GT, which is a welcome change. However, the only pressing issue with the 9-series is that it doesn't support Direct X 10.1, unlike the ATI Radeon 3800 series.

We expected the card to perform well in our tests and it didn't disappoint at all. In 3D Mark06, it scored 10,408 which is excellent and close to what we got from Palit 9600GT or ATI Radeon HD 3870. In Company of Heroes game, the score of 106 fps at max setting is again on the higher side though slightly less than what we got from Palit 9600GT, but much higher than what ATI Radeon HD3870 scored-85.7 fps. In Unreal Tournament 3 it managed an average score of 93.26 fps which is again much higher than any 8800GT cards or even the ATI Radeon HD3870 card. In Crysis again it managed a very high fps score at max setting. Put two 9600 GTs together and you could get performance that is at par with a high end 8800 GTX card.
