The M2727nf is a printer, copier, fax, and scanner-all packed into one. As is the case with all the multi-functional peripherals, this one too was on the bulkier side and slightly tall. The top essentially demonstrates the ADF, which holds up to 50 sheets of paper, the flatbed scanner, and menu controls. The LCD panel helps you configure the machine and also displays other details related to the ongoing job. I particularly liked the general look and feel of the menu controls as there were different sections dedicated to copy, fax, and scan. However, while configuring the machine, I figured out that there was no 'revert' back button, which made me go back to the starting point every time. I was pleasantly surprised to see the addition of an extra DIMM slot to the left of the device. Besides, it also has 64 MB of in-built RAM and an additional 8 MB memory for fax storage. An embedded Web Server provides access to information about device and network activities, and it can be viewed on a web browser. The integrated facsimile has some innovative features like receiving private faxes, forward fax, sends fax at a scheduled time, and customized fax speeds.

During our various tests it performed quite satisfactorily. It took 9 s before ejecting the first print and a little more than 5 s to make a copy. However, the recorded copy time shot up to 30 s when instructed for a double-sided copy. A full page scan job took 45 s. While sending a text doc through fax it took approx 1.15 min, while faxing an image recorded 4 min and 45 s on the stopwatch.

Bottomline: Ideal printing solution for small and medium scale businesses where space is a constraint.
