Amonochrome laser printer primarily for home users but with features that make it appealing for small workgroups as well. The first thing that strikes you about this printer is its compact design with a small form factor that makes it perfect for places where space is constraint. One can print at a resolution of up to 1200*600 dpi (dots per inch). The printer has an input tray capacity of 150 sheets and output tray capacity of 100 sheets, decent enough for this segment. The connectivity with the PC is through a USB 2.0 interface and installing it was a breeze. The printer has an internal storage memory of 8 MB.

Price: Rs 5,299 (1 yr warranty)
Key Specs: 16 ppm, up to 1200*600 dpi resolution, 150 sheet input tray, 353*298*209 mm, 5.7 kg.

We tested the printer for quality of printouts and speed (in PPM). The quality of printing was good for text but average for images. The time for the first printout was 14 seconds. The average speed was 16 ppm which is low when compared with Xerox Phaser 3122 (reviewed in Sep '08) that gave 20 ppm. The duty cycle of the printer is about 5000 pages. The average cartridge yield of is about 1500 standard pages and it comes with a 700 page starter toner cartridge. We tested for print quality by printing text with font size 2 and 4 both in normal and bold. The results were good with all characters distinctly visible. However, when we printed a full page image, the quality dipped as one could see printing lines clearly visible across the image. Overall, the printer generates very less noise while printing and its single button print job cancellation is pretty useful.

Bottomline: A good option if space is a constraint, but you have to make do with slightly sluggish performance.
