Short-throw projectors usually have big, bulbous lenses, but this one takes the cake. A short-throw lens is ideal if space is at a premium or placement options are limited, and you still would like a large screen. The NEC NP500WS can project a 90-inch screen from a distance of only 70-inches. And at 2100 ANSI lumens, it's good enough for even a bright room. The lens does make it fairly large, but at 3.3kg, it's not too heavy. The lens is plastic, not glass, so you will need to be more careful especially while cleaning it. As of inputs, it has DVI, VGA (D-sub) and standard composite (RCA). The pixel structure on the projected image is visible from less than 5 feet away, but you won't be seated that close anyway. Although the native resolution is 1280 x 800 (a widesc reen resolution), it also accepts full HD signals via DVI (or using a DVI to HDMI converter) and scales them down to fit WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution; ideal for movie viewing.
Coming to the performance, it is sure to dazzle you with it's bright and sharp images. 3LCD technology has progressed a great deal, and so moving images are also free from any ghosting or lag. A standard HDMI input and a DVI to HDMI adapter in the box would have been a better option. If you're just looking for a projector with short throw lens, you can also consider Benq MP512ST, an 800 x 600 pixel resolutinon that's available for an affordable price of Rs 40k.
