Given the small size and an easy to use interface, this scanner is best suited for office usage. With the new improved CMOS contact image sensor, the Canon scanner can scan colour document very quickly. The speed is almost equal to the speed of scanning greyscale images. It can scan wide variety of documents ranging from thick documents to driving licenses. Apart from the good performance, it also has good features including automatic page size detection, skipping of blank page, text orientation detection and more. Among others include scan-to-job with the help of which one can send email directly from this device. Also, it is bundled with latest document imaging software pack including capture perfect 3.0, a software, which includes both scanning and OCR functionality, scansoft papersoft SE, Omnipage 4SE, etc.

We tested this scanner in our labs with a decent office desktop. We connected the scanner over its USB interface to the test machine. First we scanned a greyscale image; it took only 5 second to scan a full A4 size document with 600 DPI. Next, we scanned the same document in color mode. Surprisingly, it took exactly the same time as that of greyscale image.

Bottomline: With this performance, the scanner becomes one of the best in the class.
