HPCL-E-appraisal

Monday, June 18, 2007

HPCL operated with a legacy paper-based system for performance appraisals, but with employees and locations running into thousands, it was always a tedious task to complete the process and make it effective in the scheduled time. So HPCL went for an electronic system with improved functionalities to manage performance in a fraction of the time that was taken earlier.

E-appraisal has brought more transparency into the system, has helped in cost reduction on account of stationery and movement of paper-based documents that involved couriers and postage. There is now an MIS on competency levels of officers that helps take informed decisions in time. The application has been developed by an in-house team. This is a three-tier Web-based application on the Lotus Domino Application Server which is hosted on RedHat Linux Application Server 3.0. Two blade servers with 2 Xeon processors, 4 GB RAM and 80 GB HDDs are being used as a hardware platform. The three modules that the application works on comprise self appraisal, performance rating and moderation. In future, HPCL plans to integrate this system to the Balance Score Card, where goals and targets shall be derived from cards entitled for a particular position. There are also plans to populate the performance data from other systems like ERP.
