Vishwak Video Framework is a new concept for media organizations and online community portals to manage their video assets. The key challenges for such companies are conversion of video shots taken through various camera devices, collection of video assets shot from various regional areas into organizations' libraries for processing, time consuming retrieval process of older assets for re-use and adaptability of old videos into modern formats such as H.264. To mitigate the above mentioned challenges, the organization decided to develop their own video portal framework for clients. The key features conceptualized for this framework were: a unified platform for reporters dispersed across the globe, a powerful conversion engine that takes various digital formats including legacy formats and converts them into high definition formats for various delivery platforms, produce-device independent content, a single, simple interface for viewers and admins. The key technical issues faced by the team while developing the framework were to convert legacy video formats into latest formats such as Flv, MP4 and H.264 so that they can be streamed to newer devices such as smart phones, iPods, etc. The project has a pretty long life with quite a few upgrade plans such as scaling up of the overall platform with Cloud Computing, integrating the portal with e-commerce functionality for digital asset purchases, and creating adaptive web player detection such as Flash or Silverlight. They also plan to build a blog around the platform, Facebook, Orkut and other community portals' single sign-on integration, etc.
