This project was implemented to address a number of challenges like: high processing time for public query, non existence of 'anywhere any service' model, lack of proper documentation, non availability of online data sharing, lack of monitoring, and lack of data backup management. To address all these challenges, and to fulfill the the increasing needs of citizens, computerization of the Transport Department was done.

Due to the implementation of this project, citizens can now fill online application for license, registration, vehicle fitness and permits. Besides these, features such as online tax payment facility is also provided to citizens of AP. To increase discipline amongst citizens and stop violation of Motor Vehicle Acts and Traffic rules, smart cards were used. Complete IT security is also provided by standardization and centralization of data.

Key technical challenges faced in this project include Incompatibility between the new system and older legacy system, lack of standards for electronic identification, lack of interoperability amongst government IT systems, and inconsistence of data in legacy systems. Being a Government project there was direct or indirect effect on citizens like availability of single access point to citizens and enhanced transparency, which in turn reduces corruption. In future, the Transport Department is planning to introduce mobile payment mode and interactive voice response system for citizens to further enhance quality of service which in return helps in building strong citizen-government relations. The project is expected to give a 25% return on capital invested from the 3rd year with a further rise in returns from the 4th year onwards.
