Unreal on PCQLinux 

Install Unreal Tournament 2003, the well-known 3D action game, on PCQLinux 8.0

To enjoy Unreal Tournament 2003 on PCQLinux 8.0, you need a graphics card based on the nVidia chipset (Riva TNT/TNT2, GeForce). Then, you can play Unreal Tournament’s shoot em up over a network. We’ll explain how you can set up this network game on your PCQ Linux 8.0. Before installing it, however, be sure to install the latest nVidia drivers.

Install nVidia drivers
You’ll find the latest nVidia drivers in the system\cdrom\unreal tournament\nvidia drivers directory on this month’s CD (PCQ Xtreme). The rpm files are called NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191.i386. rpm and NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4191.i 386. rpm. You can install them as follows:

rpm -ivh

Open the file XF86Config, found in /etc/X11 directory, in a text editor. Scroll down to the Module section. This section starts withthe line:

Section “Module” 

From this section, remove the following two lines:

Load “dri”
Load “Glcore” 

Scroll down to the following line:
Driver “nv” 

This line can be found in the “Device” section of the file. Change this line to:

Driver “nvidia” 

Save the file and start X Window using the startx command. If you are already running X Window, press CTRL+ALT+Backspace keys simultaneously to restart it. When X Window starts, you should be able to see a glimpse of the nVidia logo. If you face any problem, such as distorted display, try rebooting.

Install the game
We have given the game’s installer in the system\cdrom\unreal tournament directory on the PCQ Xtreme CD. Mount the CD, and change to this directory. Launch a terminal window within X Window and issue the following command to start the installer:

./ut2003demo-lnx-2206.sh.bin

Follow the onscreen instructions to install Unreal Tournament on PCQLinux 8.0.

Once the game is installed, you need to have another player on your network willing to play the tournament with you, the Unreal Tournament.
