Manage Downloads

WebDownloader is a graphical download manger  (like Getright and DAP) for Linux

This application can resume HTTP and FTP downloads. You can drag-n-drop URLs from Netscape or the Konqueror. The RPM of WebDownloader is on this month’s CD in cdrom/linux directory. Click on the CD-ROM icon on your desktop, browse to this directory and install the RPM (See What is a RPM, page 56.)

Start WebDownloader through K>Internet>Downloader for X. By default, the maximum number of simultaneous downloads is five. You can change this if you have good connection speeds. For this go to Options> General> Main. If you are using a proxy server, fill in its IP address and port in Options>General>Download>Proxy. Make sure to click the options ‘Use this proxy for FTP’ and ‘Use this proxy for HTTP’, once you fill in the proxy details. 

Start downloading
Click on File>New Download. Type in the URL of the file to download. Type in the name of the directory (your home directory by default) where the download will be saved. An easier method is to drag-n-drop a link from the Web browser to anywhere on the WebDownloader window or the Dnd basket, which is activated by clicking on the Starfish icon at the top. In the latter case, you can drag-n-drop a link on to the floating Starfish icon. 

You can right click on a link and select Copy link location and then click on the Paste from clipboard icon at the top of WebDownloader. Or go to Options> General>Integration>Clipboard and select ‘Monitor clipboard’. Whenever you copy a link corresponding to a file type listed in the ‘Catch these extensions field’, WebDownloader pops up and prompts you to download it.Right click on a downloading file to stop or delete it.
