'Creating Desktop apps with Silverlight'
Sounds a good buy. But, do we have video recording and voice recording through
Silverlight?
Divyesh on PCQuest.com
Silverlight, like Flash is a rendering tool. Silverlight 3 supports high
quality audio and video to be displayed on Web page and not to record as such.

'Secure a Career In Security'
This is a lot more encouraging and organized than the other offerings I
found on the Internet.

'Overall Best Project : Government of Chhattisgarh : Computerization of
Paddy Procurement and PDS'
How many people posted at difference centers, are actually responsible for
feeding and monitoring the paddy procurement online system?
Devendra kumar on PCQuest.com
Each center has two people and there are 1577 centers. So, a total of 3154
are involved from the center end. Monitoring of the application is done by NIC.

Hemiitdel.30 on PCQ forum: My system is 18 months old with Samsung DVD
r/w and Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 MHZ, 2 GB DDR2 RAM, Intel DG33FB motherboard. My
DVD drive does not respond the moment I try to use it. Please help.
Pp_pcq: Usually, dust settles on the drive lens after a period of usage,
so you will have issues like this. Grab a Lens Cleaner CD and play the cleaning
track a couple of times and you should be able to sort your problem.
Vasuatpcq on PCQ forum: When I try to copy any type of data, including
video, audio, data files or software, in my Kingston 32 GB pen drive, it copies
well, but when I re-open the pen drive, the data gets corrupted.
Neil12: I heard that Kingston 32GB pen drive is fake. Check whether the
drive gets listed and shows in Device Manager as Kingston. In Windows, Press
WinKey+ Pause/Break and in Device Manager, see if it's listed under USB. Also
you can check while exercising the 'safe to remove'.
Kdi Wakar on PCQ forum: How do I monitor if someone has inserted a USB
drive in my system and copied something?
Shahnet: Check this tool: http://lib usb-win32.sourceforge .net/ Hope it helps.
The tool runs on Windows. You can also download the trial of, or purchase USBSpy
USB Monitor from http://www.ever strike.com /usb-monitor/
Nick0007: If you want to monitor USB devices inserted in your system and
the files copied on them, try using uHook personal 2.1. It can track removable
storage devices such as USB drives, SD cards, cameras, cell phones, iPods etc. I
got this software from the May issue of PCQuest DVD. Alternately, you can
download it from www .dataresolve.com
Anil Chopra on PCQ forum: With the news that Google is coming up with
ChromeOS, some people say that the Open Source community won't be too happy
about it, as it could affect Linux market share. Some say that though it's
currently meant for Netbooks, it just might move to PCs, after which it could
impact Windows market share. What are your thoughts on it?
Vinod Unny: It's good they're releasing an OS. Competition is always
good. However, here are my thoughts:
1. It's not easy to get a new OS into the market and expect it to become a hit
overnight - like some people are predicting. Cases in point: MacOS and Linux.
2. An only browser based OS might sound great, however the realities are
quite different. Users want richness on their desktop - including being able to
use their peripherals, apps and media. -- 2a. Older peripherals support: Who's
going to write the drivers for them? What about media device interfaces like
iTunes and others? -- 2b. A browser only machine is not going to be good playing
music or movies.
3.Offline capability might be achieved through Google Gears - but for items
that are already accessed. What about when you want to create and save data
locally? Can you have presentations and spreadsheets that you can work on, say
in a flight?
4. Google's announcement was surprisingly meant towards Linux. It announced
that there will be a complete redesign of the security architecture of the base
OS (Linux) to ensure it is secure. Does that mean Linux is inherently insecure?
5. The Netbook market makes up about 2% of the world's computer sales. It's
not a major market even if they do end up capturing it and overall OS stats will
not be impacted greatly.
6. Remember that Windows 7 which will be available to general consumers
shortly will come out almost a year before ChromeOS and is already optimized to
work on Netbooks and yet gives it all the richness of a desktop/notebook
computer. Guess which one people will choose!
Rahul on PCQ forum: For developing a Web application, which one would
you prefer -PHP or ASP?
Prasanth: Depends on what you want to do? Each has it's own pros and
cons, which work differently based on the application you want to build. Just a
'Web application' is too generalized to recommend any particular platform. For
that matter, in the same league you have a choice of JSP as well.
Rakesh: Considering that PHP is loved by open source community and ASP
has made many improvements in recent times. If you're on a Microsoft environment
building a large application, then using ASP makes sense. PHP on other hand can
be used to implement and deploy things more quickly on the Web.
Anilchopra on PCQ forum: The dot com bust gave rise to a lot of new
technologies that changed the face of IT forever. The Web emerged stronger than
ever before, and gave rise to Web 2.0, social networking, etc. Video
conferencing and DR became hot after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
Which technologies do you think will the current economic slowdown give rise to?
Varunj: I have my eyes glued on the 'Cloud'. Plus, whatever may be the
technology, it will have to prove how green it is in terms of both, energy and
currency efficiency.
Anil Chopra: Green is a tech that's already happening. It's not
something that would start now. Cloud computing could become hot. What else?
Varunj: Mobility and unified communication are going to remain hot areas
like they have always been.
Anil Chopra on PCQ forum: I just installed the latest and much hyped
version of FireFox 3.5. The download and installation went smoothly. However,
just before launching, it did a compatibility check and found that it couldn't
find compatible add-ons for my Norton IPS 1.0, Download Accelerator, and
Integration 8.0.6.5. So, obviously when I tried to download something using
FireFox, DAP didn't kick-in automatically. After launching it, I am already
seeing small, but useful enhancements.
There's a plus button next to the tab, allowing you to add new tabs quickly.
Earlier, I had to right click to add a new tab. I am still trying out the new
browser version. However, I haven't tried any benchmarks on the new Firefox, but
it is certainly working much faster than the IE8 installed on my laptop.
Rahul: Incidentally, when I updated my Firefox from 3.0.11 to 3.5 on
my Vista machine it used to crash up. I noticed that after 15-20 minutes of
inactivity, this crash used to happen. I filed a post on Mozilla support forum
and found many users with the same issue. Also this is not confined to Vista, it
happens in Mac as well. Firefox 3.5 is stable, but the crash happens due to some
add-ons . Page(s) 1
