This is a set of new e-Learning courses that can be made available to users on CD, on the corporate Intranet, as well as the Internet. The benefit is availability to students any time and anywhere. We received a learning series CD containing three courses—Coaching skills, Conflict Management and Negotiation skills. Visibly focused at developing soft skills, these courses are targeted at professionals in managerial positions, management students and consultants. Created in Authorware, a single course is estimated to take up an hour of your time.

BRAAHMAM LEARNING SERIES

Price: Between Rs 500-1000 per course per head. For individual users, courses are available only through www.MyBraahmam.com @ Rs.1850/- per course
Meant for: Management professionals, students and consultants
Features: Three courses on coaching skills, conflict management and negotiation skills
Pros: Clear navigation structure that is identical in each course, good use of examples, puzzles, games and quizzes to convey concepts
Cons: The interface needs improvement

All courses on the CD are identically structured with five buttons on screen used for navigating through the content, exiting the course, and launching additional controls like Notepad, Glossary, Find and Bookmark. These can all be extremely useful while taking the course. The course uses audio/visual effects to improve student retention, and also contains quizzes, puzzles, and games during the lesson. Some examples are enacted out with real life situations and characters to illustrate important concepts. In some places though, the slides move too fast, making it difficult for the student to follow. The content however is quite clear and geared towards teaching you the concepts. Statistics and news is kept out. A student walks out with a clear understanding of the key ideas and processes taught in that course, making the Learning Series an effective one.

Some other courses available ‘off the shelf’ are Interviewing and Selling skills, while two more currently under development are business communications and listening skills. Existing courses can also be accessed from www.MyBraahmam.com.

The Bottom Line. Overall, the course content is very good and useful, though some work is required on the presentation.
