Xerox WorkCenter 312

This is among the two laser printer based MFDs we reviewed this time (other one from Sharp). Although it’s a basic MFD containing the regular printing, copying and scanning functions, its performance is very good. It delivers both on print quality and its claimed speed of 12 ppm. Copying is scan once and print many, and the quality is also excellent. Scan speed is however very low, and in fact even its claimed rating is 2 mins for a full page color scan. Its front panel buttons are uncluttered and well laid out. Apart from the standard ones, it has separate buttons to pause printing and zooming from 25% to 400% in 1 % increments. Another design feature in the MFD is a separate space for keeping extra paper.

Overall, it’s a good entry-level MFD for small to medium organizations and workgroups, who need to do a lot of work with monochrome documents. Those who do regular scanning may want to keep in mind its slow scan speed. It also has optional networking support.
