Sony SDX-700C/R AIT-3

This internal AIT-3 drive fits into a 5.25” CD-ROM bay. It has a native capacity of 100 GB with a rated transfer rate of 40GB/hr. This capacity and transfer rates make it suitable for entry to mid range backup environments. In transfer rates and capacity it is comparable to SDLT-1 drives, but when it comes to LTO, its capacity and transfer rates are much lower. The drive was at par with its rated transfer rates for normal backup, restore and stream backup. While these were lower than what we achieved with the IBM and HP LTO drives, its restoration rates were pretty good. The drive has a few LEDs, which glow when the tape head needs to be closed or if there is a tape error. Its price is much lower than the IBM and HP LTO drives but the running cost per GB of the tape is significantly higher. This is a good choice if your backup requirements are not going to grow significantly over a period of time, and your budgets don’t permit you to buy the LTOs.
